Busted by Hurricane Bill

The launch at Strong Island Landing, every place else was closed

Hurricane Bill was supposed to come close enough to the Cape to shut down most of the ocean beaches but not close enough to give us the really big wind. But the forecasters weren't sure. It is a hurricane after all. I figured the potential was there for some wind if it veered or slowed a little. So I had to try to get some of what we got. It was an early morning session in gusty conditions, planing about half the time. That half felt great! Not what I had hoped for but it was really nice to have a sail in my hands again.

Bill was a windsurfing disappointment in the Northeast for sure. I had some fun at the beach yesterday just watching 15 footers crash, but there was no sailing to be had.

Misery loves company! Really I'm glad the Xbnks got it good. Really. But it's our turn next time!

Where's Strong Island Landing? I'm amazed to see empty moorings at this time of the year. It was blowing adequately out of the East near the Casino in Falmouth this weekend so I tried putting up my big trainer kite. The wind had died by the time I had it in the air. It landed in the beach plums and poison ivy.

Strong Island Landing is in Pleasant Bay, Chatham. They have poison ivy there too, got the tip of my sail in it but managed to avoid touching it. I hope you're itch free.

Luckily, I didn't get a rash this last time. No one mentions Poison Ivy as a drawback to kiting, but it is. I know and like Pleasant Bay, but the camera seemed to distort it enough to wonder. We finally had some good steady wind on the Cape. There were always 10 kites on the water all afternoon at WB and the boaters were exceptionally threatening. A beginner WSer and an expert joined me in the middle.
