Deep Hole, Windsurfed, WSW, 12-25, solo, 6.2/Acid 94, temp 46 to 48 F. sailed from 1:00-4:15

Deep Hole- on fire.

Up and down winds, waves that were small to nonexistant, very low tide (full moon), and 2 kiters for company who stopped when I started. Oh well, at least it was good to be back at Deep Hole. It felt like I was visiting an old friend that I hadn't seen in a while. Too bad my old friend wasn't in a better mood. Maybe next time. It did give me a roaring sunset.

I think Deep Hole has wind issues. I've often been tempted to sail in that area coz the waves look so sweet, but the wind is very fickle, and then I have regrets about driving there when I could have been on the Cape. That is the dilemma: better wind guarantee with flat water? or take the risk of a skunked sesh but try for waves. Have you ever sailed Taylor Lane in Little Compton? Epic spot! Caught it once, good only in S to SE, amazing clean swell rolling into the Saconet River.

Yeah, I was skunked one summer day at Pt.Judith when it was howling on the Cape. Since then I don't trust the Pt. Judith meter, (it's a little high and slightly offshore), especially for Summer winds. There is a group of locals that sail at Deep Hole & area. They used to say to average the meters from Pt.Judith and Ninigret for Deep Hole. But the new meter at Ninigret is less accurate so that may not work anymore. I sometimes call a friend that lives down there for a reality check on the wind.

That said, I had some great days there last winter! The frontal winds can be just as good there as on the Cape, depending on how the front is moving. Looking at the meter from this past Sunday, it wasn't any better at Kalmus. I think it was pretty up and down everwhere in MA & R.I.

I haven't heard of Taylor Lane. It sounds good!
